Many people have excess fat and skin that cannot be eliminated through diet and exercise. This is especially common for women who have had multiple pregnancies or people who have lost tissue elasticity through the aging process. With a tummy tuck, San Jose plastic surgeon Dr. Vincent Lepore can remove that unwanted fat and drooping skin and tighten abdominal wall muscles that have been stretched due to pregnancy or weight fluctuation.

No matter how hard you work to maintain a healthy lifestyle and fit appearance, you may not be able to tighten up your stomach area the way you'd like. Through pregnancy, aging, weight fluctuation, heredity, or other factors you can lose muscle tone, develop stubborn fat deposits and begin to notice loose and sagging skin. With an abdominoplasty, commonly referred to as a tummy tuck, San Jose women can improve these conditions.
Liposuction is another body contouring procedure that many people consider when they want to eliminate excess fat. While liposuction is highly effective in removing unwanted fat in common problem areas, it cannot address drooping or sagging excess skin, and it cannot retighten stretched muscles. Dr. Lepore regularly performs both tummy tucks and liposuction for his Los Gatos and San Jose patients. He can help you determine which would work better for you, or combine the procedures for more advanced body contouring.
Board-certified and Stanford-trained, Dr. Vincent Lepore is trusted by countless San Jose-area men and women to create the results they want using today's most reliable techniques. Get to know this remarkable surgeon.
Dr. Lepore creates a surgical plan based on the physical exam he performs during your consultation, your medical history, and your personal cosmetic goals. Abdominoplasty may be performed using a local anesthetic combined with sedation or using general anesthesia, depending on your specific needs.
At the outset of the procedure, Dr. Lepore makes a horizontal incision stretching between the hip bones just above the pubic area. For women who have had children, Dr. Lepore repairs abdominal muscles stretched and weakened by pregnancy and childbirth. Tummy tucks may also be combined with liposuction to remove excess fat from the abdominal area and to create smooth contours. Dr. Lepore then pulls the skin taut and removes the excess before suturing the incision.
A tummy tuck procedure may also involve Dr. Lepore making a second incision around the belly button to address the upper abdomen. Dr. Lepore then repositions the belly button for a cosmetically pleasing look. Some patients may be candidates for a mini tummy tuck, which is limited to the area below the navel. That is something you can discuss with Dr. Lepore during the consultation.
When you return home, you may have drainage tubes that help prevent the buildup of fluids at the incision locations. Dr. Lepore typically removes these tubes within a week of the operation. He asks patients to wear a specialized, tight-fitting garment to help in the recovery and healing process.
Women who choose abdominoplasty to address physical changes caused by pregnancy often combine the tummy tuck with other procedures as part of a Mommy Makeover. The most common choices include cosmetic breast surgeries such as a breast lift or breast augmentation, along with liposuction. Combining different procedures is safe in healthy patients, and effective, especially following significant weight loss or pregnancy.
Dr. Lepore thoroughly discusses all of these options during your consultation and carefully plans the surgery to incorporate the various procedures. Combining procedures doesn't necessarily result in a longer recovery period.

For a week or two after surgery, you will experience some swelling and may need to avoid positions that would put extra strain on your incisions. After the recovery period, you will be able to stand up straight and see your slim, firmer shape. To maintain the results of your abdominoplasty, it is important to continue to eat well and exercise regularly.Plastic Surgery Info
