Understanding Breast Augmentation Surgery

There are many options to consider before your breast enlargement surgery. As a skilled and experienced plastic surgeon, Dr. Lepore is able to make recommendations and guide you through the decision making process. This process is about YOU, so Dr. Lepore will be sure to thoroughly explain his recommendations to keep you informed and comfortable. Together, you will consider:

• The type of implant. You may choose from either silicone gel or saline implants. Each type of implant has its advantages, and Dr. Lepore will explain these to you so that you can decide on your best option.
• The "profile" or "projection" of the implant. This determines how far your breasts will project from your chest. Implants may have a high, medium or low profile.
• The shape of the implant. Implants may be either round or teardrop in shape.
• The position of the implant. Implants may be placed over or under the pectoral (chest) muscle.
• The location of the incision. Incisions may be located under the breast, around the areola, or in the armpit.

Many women choose to compliment their breast augmentation with other procedures such as a breast lift, abdominoplasty or liposuction. Dr. Lepore also performs these procedures and can discuss them with you.

What to Expect

The procedure will be performed under either sedation or general anesthesia. Through a carefully-placed incision, Dr. Lepore will insert the implant, properly position it, and then close the incisions.

After your breast enlargement in San Jose, you will need to rest for the first 24 to 48 hours. Your breasts will be swollen and may feel tender or sore. After a period of limited activity that typically lasts several days, Dr. Lepore will clear you to resume your normal activities.
