Breast Reconsruction following mastectomy, is a process involving understanding and artistry, as well as skill. This type of surgery has been a hallmark of Dr. Vincent Lepore's practice for over 25 years. The photograph displayed, shows our patient after she has undergone her reconstructive surgery. Many women undergoing this sensitive process, prefer not to have photos taken after their cancer diagnosis, and before reconstruction.
This patient is in her early 40s. She was able to have what is know as "nipple sparing" mastectomies, followed by reconstruction. Her own nipples, and as much of her breast skin as possible, were retained. As you can see, her body-type is thin. To add coverage to the implants that would be used to reconstruct her breasts, Dr. Lepore grafted a processed skin material known as Acellular Dermal Matrix, to provide better coverage on the lower pole of the breasts. The patient chose to have the so-called "Gummy Bear" implants inserted. These are silicone gel implants (known as cohesive gel, or form stable silicone implants). She is doing well, and is very pleased with the outcome of her surgery.
