Surgeon: Vincent D. Lepore, MD
This patient is in her 40s, and is undergoing bilateral mastectomies (both breasts removed) due to breast cancer. She decided on a plan of action that included nipple sparing mastectomy with immediate reconstruction.
In Dr. Lepore's consultations with the patient, they determined the type and size of implants she would have (Allergan- form stable silicone, anatomically shaped reconstructive implants). During surgery, the implants were placed beneath the chest muscle. While a good portion of breast skin and the nipple/areola area were left intact, in this case, as in many, additional coverage was needed for the implant. This patient also had a graft of Acellular Dermal Matrix (a skin cell material) placed along the inframammary fold, to provide the coverage she needed.
The After photos show her results approximately 2 months following surgery. Although she is still in the healing stages, our patient is very pleased with the results of her reconstructive procedures.
